A fox cub was reported in a collapsed state last week. these photos show it in situ and at the vets. No injuries visible but it was weak.
Based on past experience we kn ow that the first thing, after ascertaining there are no injuries, is fluids. In the past cub and adult foxes looking as if they are knocking on deaths door have been given fluids and rest for a few hours and spring back to life.
On this occasion the vet, without examining, did not give fluids but put the cub on a heat pad!!! The cub was not improving but it was strongly suggested fluids be given and they were.
Rather than a stay at a rescuers house overnight the cub was returned home to the vixen and other cubs that same evening.
