It Is All VERY Grim

 

My concern based on the deaths so far this year is that we are losing so many fox cubs.

The total loss we do not know as "small dead fox" could be a cub or adult Also, apart from the ones we know of there are those we do not either because no one could be bothered reporting or young cubs that died because their mother was killed in some way. I do not like the term used in the latter case as "Mismothering" seems to say the vixen was a bad mother and cubs died as a result.

158 known foxes that have died is a lot -vixens ae need more of with a declining UK fox population.

I have always gone for the conservative figure that, during the VERY suspicious, Bristol mange outbreak of 1994-1995 we lost 94% of foxes in the City (county wide no idea) s0 6% were left. Bristol University will not open the former Mammal Group records for study so no help there. Others have stated that 98% of the population died off. If correct that is an incredible recovery but I do know it took years for population to build back up -notable was the fact that rats became a bigger problem during fox absence.

The supposed Green Party before election promised it would do its best to try to cut down deaths and had all the proposed ideas in their hands.

From day 1, however, making money and getting investments while threatening green space areas has been the top priority -and de-treeing the City.
